About us

Collaborate is an independent CIC focusing on the thinking, culture and practice of cross-sector collaboration in services to the public.

We care about outcomes and values, not sectors

Our work actively promotes services to the public that engage government, business and civil society, blurring traditional boundaries and prioritising outcomes over sector preconceptions

heart_icon

We support collaborative citizens

Our starting point is the voice of the citizen, family and community, and our approach will always look for ways to support their capability, independence and resilience.

heart_icon

We work with people who want genuine collaboration

Our clients and partners are people who want to collaborate to deliver better outcomes – we help them to make it happen through different thinking, culture and practice

heart_icon

We offer honest relationships, not pre-baked solutions

Our way of working is different – we believe that the best approaches are co-created; we work hard to convene networks, broker relationships and be ‘comfortable with uncomfortable’

heart_icon

We build readiness and unlock capacity

Our approach is to enable others to find their own solutions; we use independent evidence and diagnostic insight, then build capability in others to make delivery sustainable

What we do

Diagnostic

diagnosis_white

We use deliberative research to hold a mirror to systems, organisations and people, developing clear insights and uncovering evidence to support action by asking the right questions

Shared Space

shared_space_white

We hold the tension inherent in all good collaborations by brokering relationships between individuals and across sectors, enabling collaborative problem solving

Readiness

readiness_white

We help you do the dark work that builds collaboration, focusing on both behaviours and infrastructure, and working with both leaders and those operating across the system

Delivery

delivery_white

We help you develop approaches that deliver against your collaborative ambition – through impact evaluation, performance incentives, and accountability frameworks

Collaboration Readiness: Why it matters, how to build it, and where to start

This new publication offers a practical guide to collaboration readiness, drawn from our practice across the UK and beyond. We believe there's no transformation without collaboration and no collaboration without readiness: this report helps you to take a step back and consider six different aspects of collaboration and provides a shallow route into building readiness in each.

Helping Europe’s Social Funders to Collaborate

Last month Collaborate, along with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the IKEA Foundation and Big Lottery Fund, presented the Funding Ecology concept and the complimentary mapping technique at the European Foundation Centre’s annual conference. The session encouraged independent funders from across Europe to consider their role and value within a funding ecosystem, and provided examples of how mapping could support this process of awareness. See here for a more detailed review.
